Greetings all humans! I want to share how the five element framework that guides my acupuncture treatments has helped me stay grounded in this “unprecedented time.” May I have your listening? Please read on…
There is so much that is unknown, which can cause great fear (water element). Instead of being frozen water, I chose to flow and take action by asking, “how do I move creatively and flexibly amidst the unknowns?” (Wood element) I ask this multiple times a day as I navigate how to conduct my business and care for my home, family, friends and myself. What slowly came from this inquiry is a series of new offerings:

I invite you to join me in the inquiry mentioned above with the intention that as we begin to forge answers, we can cultivate relationships, dance with life, and feel compassion, joy and sadness. Let’s take life one day at a time… one hour… one moment at a time. (Fire Element) We are all connected to each other and to the universal life force energy, which is what I access when sending distance Reiki treatments to anyone anywhere.
When we practice staying grounded in the present moment, grounded in our homes, centered in our being and in our doing, and nourishing ourselves and others then we have something to receive from this experience… and something to give. (Earth Element)
To re-cap, we went through water’s unknowing and fear, wood’s action planning and creativity, fire’s present moment and connection, and earth’s grounding nourishment. Now we must acknowledge the grief over what we have lost and let it reveal our gratitude for what we truly value. (metal element)
For me it has been easy to let go of the everyday comings and goings. It is harder to let go of hugs with family and friends, sharing meals, kids playing in many fun places and more
. It was hard to let go of my 40th birthday party, though the zoom party was a valuable and memorable experience. It’s harder to let go of giving acupuncture treatments and my home office that was just getting started.
And I acknowledge my grief: for the many who don’t have access to nature.. for those who are stuck in uncomfortable home or lack of home situations… for lives lost… and for the fear that has been instilled on a large scale. When will we feel safe to have a dinner party?… to visit our loved ones in a nursing home or hospital?… to be in community and live our lives as “normal”? Is there a possibility of going “back to normal”? Do we even want to?
Now we are back at the water element’s questions and unknowns. In health, we keep moving around the cycle. My hopes for us all, my seeds of possibility, are that we root ourselves in gratitude as much as possible and that we continue to have the strength and creativity to create the life we desire.
For fun, try writing your own story imagining your life a year from now. Write five versions of it and pick the one you like best. If you do, please share it with me. I’d love to hear what dreams you’re conjuring in the challenging opportunity of this time.
